The head of Moraine Creek is one of the most beautiful places in New Zealand but, on a day on which the Milford planes are passing overhead, it is also one of the noisiest.

The track up the valley was built by the first climbers by piecing together deer trails, and not much has changed except that their blazes have been replaced by orange markers. The track is easy to follow through the bush, but is overgrown in the scrub above (try to stay on the ground trail).
